This is the answer to the old question, “How do you eat an elephant?” Some gardens are built in a rush: make a plan, get it built, get it planted and there you go. Bish, bosh, nicker nosh.

However, the best gardens are built a bit at a time over years. This gives you a chance to edit and tweak, to add extra borders and to replant others.

That is the way this garden has evolved. We have done a lot from new rose gardens to ponds, from long double borders to parterres and from vistas to rangy meadows. Another year, another project.
